Wednesday Jan 22

Tuesday was a one day withdrawl of services and there was no class.

I was asked to post an exam outline / review ideas presentation online. Here that is right here.

Wednesday we took one final look at the exam review ideas and I conferenced with any student that wanted to see their mark going into the exam.

If you have not yet completed a section ... specifically the Writing section of the CA, I strongly recommend that you come and see your mark.

I shared that the exam for Period Three is going to be Monday Jan 27 in Portable 2. You should plan on showing up at about 8:30 am.

Ok! Good luck and thank you for a great semester!

Monday Jan 20

We are in to the final stretch of the course.

I did show my students their mark with the CA included today.

We spent the period prepping for the exam and getting those last few assignments owed in to the teacher for assessment.

I strongly encourage students to do the assignment from Thursday.

This is the article we will be reading today. Here are the typical questions. See above for a level four

Keep going!

Friday Jan 17

We needed to do the final touches on a few things.

Exam prep.

Still bugging people for their missing stuff - updated marks for that should be in on Monday.

Thursday Jan 16

I'm away today

Read this article and email me your responses to the following questions. This will be marked.

1.     In your own words, paraphrase the thesis of Howard’s essay.

2. In a few sentences, describe if you consider this essay a formal piece of writing or an informal piece of writing.

3. In a few sentences, describe how Howard concludes her essay and explain the reason why it is a persuasive ending.

Wed Jan 15

Today was made up of a few things

We did some exam review. We read this article and chatted about both Part A of the exam and Part B of the exam. On the actual article is an example of a Part B type longer answer question that a typical English teacher would use as a writing prompt on an exam.

I'm running out of articles on that page and so I'll delve into my former exams and use those for exam review articles moving forward.

Another round of nagging and showing students what they needed to have handed in for the various units was also done.

Finally, we watched this

That Alan Watts. What a guy.

Tuesday Jan 14

It was a nice day. A little rainy, but that's ok.

We read this article for exam prep and talked about the terms and having an opinion on the ideas of the author.

Right.

Then I had to nag and ask about assignments. Need to get everyone's work in. I posted the dates for the Glass Castle exit tickets on the right hand side of the blog, too.

Also recommended eLearning sites and places for people in the class.

Monday Jan 13

...and on to Monday.

One of the last Mondays in this class. I'm hoping to make it a useful one as well.

Anyway, we continued finishing off CA and do some review for the exam.

In order to practise for the exam we read this article and did a similar exercise to what is on the exam.

Here is the list if you wanted to go forward and read a few as a part of your own prep for the exam.
