Friday Nov 29

We read to page 258.

and got these questions for homework 52, 53, 54

I found out that I posted the incorreect file as the CA both in yesterday's post and in the right-hand side of the blog. I fixed that as soon as I discovered that, and it's now the correct file at both locations.

I did also get some paper copies made for today's class for those who wanted one.

We begin that on Friday Dec 6th and will follow the due dates already posted.

It's Friday. We're happy.

Thursday Nov 28

The author of DWWOTF was in Burlington last night. I was there. It was cool.

Today was a "Let's work together to make sure we are moving together" day.

We read to page 245 and got to questions 51 from the novel study to complete.

I also set the due date for Glass Castle part 3 as Dec 5th - we're having a quiz that day, too.

I posted the outline for the CA on the right hand side of the blog, too

And posted here. Paper copy to follow tomorrow.

Wed Nov 27

Today we did a fair number of things in class.

First, we took up the homework from yesterday that I got a few copies completed on paper, even though the instructions said by email.

So I asked people to email their responses to me by the end of the day.

We then read the novel until page 220 and got 45,  46 and 47 for homework.

I also had to do a fair amount of nagging for assignments that were owed. Some discussion ensued about what and where things were posted.

I also mentioned to the class if I was away, I had to make sure my classes were covered - and they had a similar expectation if they were away. Check the course website ....this website ... if they are away for any reason.

Monday and Tuesday Nov 26

Monday was a catch-up day - It was a nice break we just had, but let's get back to it.

We did some reading and got the quiz done for most that missed it on Wednesday ... and Thursday...

Then I had some "one on ones" for marks and assignments.

Tuesday ... I'm away

Here is the assignment due by the end of the period:

1.     It is expected that each student will submit their own work via email to Chesserhandin1 at gmail.com

2.     In an informal piece of writing of about 100 words to be emailed to the teacher, reflect on this idea:

“Write about an example of racism you have either experienced or have seen in the world. Think about pop culture, the media politics or people’s lives around you. What happened? How did you feel/handle the situation?”

Tuesday Wed and Thursday Nov 21

Man ... I messed up today ... Thursday.

I should have followed the same proceedures as Wednesday the 20th ... and as I write this I realize I made an error.

I will do better tomorrow. Monday.

Wednesday was a quiz day and I had two students take time away from Dodgeball to write the quiz and confirm handing in material on Glass Castle.

Tuesday we read to page 196 and got to question 44 from the assignment to get done to hand in on Wednesday.

Yes, there were two big events going on at the school - Dodgeball and the football game in Hamilton respectively. However, not everyone bought out and or signed out for the period. Disappointing.

We will have to work together to keep moving forward towards the finishing line in this course.

Ok, see you Monday!

Monday Nov 18

I showed a preliminary schedule today about what the class was going to do for each day until Christmas.

After Christmas, we'll work on Non-ficiton and Exam Prep.

Anyway, we read to page 185 in the text and got 38, 39 and 42 for homework from the Unit questions.

I would like to encourage all students to come to class on time and be here for the entire class. We will always make progress in the class. Every. Day.

Anyway, life will keep going on!

Friday Nov 15

We read to pag 170 in the text.

We did the Character Sketches that are due next week, too. Make sure you get your own copy of them to hand in on Nov 20th

Progress!

Wed and Thursday Nov 14

We started Thursday with this video ... just so that my students could hear the WV accent of some of the characters we are meeting in the book.

We got to page 154 in the novel, too and should have up to 36 in hte questions complete.

We also had a football game outside the portable today - always a great event.

Tuesday Nov 12

Back at full strength in class. Happy to see

We started today finishing off the Harambe question that was due at the end of class ... on Friday.

We read to page 122 in the text and got 31 and 32 for homework for tomorrow.

I also got the due dates for the CA for the course - I'll get them up by the end of the week.

I also posted the due date for Part Two of the Glass Castle Novel Study. See on the right-hand side of the blog for the date.

Ok ... cool.

He says you should write about injustice

Monday Nov 11

Today was lightly attended.

We should have been conferenceing and working together. Instead we caught up on work and tried to help people who did attend to get the right mark for Midterm.

Ok, see you tomorrow!

Friday Nov 8

Hey, I need y'all to read the text from 102 to 109 on your own ... it's a short chapter about a time when Jeannette and her family goes and see the cheetah.

Using whatever device you can, read and watch this video on Harambe, the gorilla that was killed while in captivity in the Cincinnati zoo. Then reflect either by yourself or with a small group about the following idea:

How does this story in the article compare and contrast to the Walls’ experience with the cheetah in the novel? Do you agree with Rex’s actions and ideas about the cheetah at the zoo? Why or why not?

Thursday Nov 7

It was quiz day ... which was also a "hurry up and get Part one in day" as well.

At the end of the class, I did get a few of the Part 1's for this unit in. Which was great.

I still have quite a number of them are owed.

Get them done.

In the final minutes of class, we introduced an idea for tomorrow: Harambe.
